Zaminkav Center of Geology and the Environment Research obtained its license from The Ministry of Science, Research and Information approved by the Council of Higher Education Development was launched in 2004 with Zaminkav Research Group. As the result of its activities, conducting research plans, research and executive projects, the Center obtained the agreement of three research groups to help in the environmental protection and saving human settlements, water and soil in different areas.

This center is taking advantage of the expertise of more than 30 faculty members of different domestic universities and has close relation with organizations and industrial and executive centers. Our aim is to accomplish different tasks and project with collaboration of other groups and institutions.

The capabilities of this research center include:

 

Þ     Conducting geoelectrical and  seismological studies;

Þ     Conductingww Gravity and magnetic survey;

Þ     Investigation of the construction land and estimating earthquake risks;

Þ     Conducting research on the effect of the origins and seismic geotechnical;

Þ     2D and 3D mapping;

Þ      Evaluation of Engineering Geology and Soil Mechanics;

Þ     Seismic Geotechnical classification of the sub-zones;

Þ     Measuring seismic vulnerability;

Þ     Environmental assessment after earthquake;

Þ     Conducting research related to arranging Guide plan plans for city

Þ     Conducting environmental evaluations;

Þ     Conducting studies related to soil and water contamination;

Þ     Conducting research related to rural displacement and introducing the optimum habitats;

 

Our objectives

Our objectives include the following:

Planning developmental and construction programs in the areas of environmental protection, the study of cultural heritage, developing inclusive plans and the assessment of settlement plans.

The consulting services of the group include:

Þ     Evaluation of the environmental impacts caused by natural disasters;

Þ     Regional planning studies, land use planning, comprehensive and conductive plans;

Þ     Evaluation of the potentials and contaminating factors in natural environments;

Þ     Running applied research to achieve  sustainable development based on environmental protection and mitigating its risks;

Þ     Providing tourism and cultural, geological development models;

Þ     Conducting research in the areas of ancient  buildings and cultural heritage being endangered;

Þ     Studying the appropriate development models for different regions;

Þ     Identifying the potentials for establishing developmental poles in various regions based on civil engineering, mining, tourism and financial development;

Þ     The assessment of engineering plans (roads, dams, airports and power plans) with regard to their effect on the environment;

The center also focuses on fundamental issues related to sustainable development in alignment with the missions of the nation. It also endeavors at launching applied projects, in addition to meeting the research needs of the ministries, organizations and institutions to help them in decision-making process. Our major objectives include the following:

Þ     Preparing the grounds for and arranging research and academic plans in professional areas;

Þ     Developing information systems for conducting research and gaining access to the most efficient data information methods;

Þ     Developing research in professional areas;

Þ     Collaboration with domestic and foreign educational and academic institutes to improve the quality of research activities;

Þ     Providing research and consulting services for regional studies at national and international levels.

Our activities which are mainly related to the above objectives regarding natural disasters, include:

Þ     Examining the consequences of natural disasters that occurred in the past as well as collecting and recording the statistics in the form of a database.

Þ     Designing methods and strategies for mobilization of national resources in national and regional levels to be used for saving the lives and improving the health of the victims of natural disasters.

Þ     Conducting research on the vulnerability of biological complexes and providing plans for mitigating damages.

Þ     Publication of books and reports and technical journals related to natural disasters.

Þ     Holding training courses related to dealing with natural disasters with the collaboration of the related institutions.

Þ     Holding conferences, seminars, meetings as well as national and international exhibitions on natural disasters.

Þ     Providing research and consultation services for conducting regional studies in national and international levels.

The Research Group for Regional Planning

Mission: Providing developmental and engineering programs at national level taking into the account the environmental consideration.

Service provided to industrial and executive centers are created with the following approaches:

Þ     Conducting studies regarding the assessment of the capabilities of the regions;

Þ     Conducting the feasibility for industrial plans;

Þ     Providing Planning Management Services;

Þ     Positioning the optimum conditions for settlement;

Þ     Designing comprehensive and conductive plans

Þ     The assessment of environmental effects of natural disasters;

Þ     The assessment of potentials and contaminating effects of the natural environment;

Þ     Applied research with the aim of sustainable development and environmental protection, retrofitting the structures and historical buildings and mitigating the resulting risk;

Þ     Providing tourism and geological development plans;

Þ     Determining appropriated models for different territories;

Research Group for Geology and Geotechnics

Mission: the group aims at conducting geological and geotechnical investigations for providing professional services. Some of the capabilities of the group:

Þ     Providing the map of natural disaster areas in the country;

Þ     Providing maps for risk-prone areas(maps for disaster risks);

Þ     Conducting studies related to the causes and providing solutions to mitigating the consequences of natural disasters including:

o   Holding heterogeneous on-land meetings;

o   liquefaction;

o   Earthquake and landslides;

o   Natural disasters in cities and rural areas;

o   In detail study of the effects of Regions;

o   Conducting geological and geological engineering investigations;

o   Examining the retrofitting and seismic optimizing of the buildings;

o   The study of zoning and finding solutions for natural disasters;

o   Concept of engineering geophysics;

o   Conducting engineering and mining exploration;

o   Conducting studies related to discovering water resources;

  

The Research Group for Earthquake Investigation and Crisis Management

Missions: the research group for earthquake investigation and crisis management aims at meeting the needs of the country regarding the applied research in the fields of crisis and earthquake management. Collaborating with professors, researchers and experts and taking advantage of the required expertise, new scientific achievements, this group has conducted many programs and projects all over the country. Some of the capabilities of the group include: 

Þ     Conducting inclusive research on the activities carried out in different levels of crisis and risk management;

Þ     Providing technical and consulting services on crisis and risk management;

Þ     Seismic geotechnical sub-zoning;

Þ     Holding training courses for crisis management;

Þ     Collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior, Housing Foundation of Islamic Revolution, as well as with municipalities and other organizations and institutions;

Þ     Conducting comprehensive research and studies in the field of crisis management and risk management;

Þ     Providing technical services and consultancy in the fields of crisis management and risk management;

Þ     The study of side effects;

Þ     Seismic zonation and fault risk analysis;

Þ     Seismic geotechnical sub-zoning  when required;

Þ     Holding Crisis Management courses;

Þ      Collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior, Housing Foundation of Islamic Revolution, as well as with municipalities and other organizations and institutions;

Þ     Administering research, theoretical and applied crisis management programs for organizations and ministries;

Þ     Providing consultation for designing and establishing crisis management systems in provinces, organizations as well as in public and private companies;

Þ     Designing and establishing crisis management chambers;
